a Backcountry cabin for the Middlebury College community
Lucky for us our name is House in the Woods - We built this 16’ wide by 32' long cabin in the Bread Loaf backcountry about two miles from the nearest road. All materials and equipment were hauled in by tractor over the College cross country ski trails. The cabin nominally sleeps 12 folks on platforms and a loft. The lodge is heated with a wood stove and is wrapped with 2” of rigid foam insulation to insure that it warms right up on a cold winters night. We had a great time building this cabin and are looking forward to our next backcountry project. We can arrange a tour if you’d like a closer look.
